How We Make This Jacket
Women Of
The Community Of Miranda
We work with seamstresses from rural communities of Ecuador to handcraft each of our pieces, enabling them to become independent through their skills and provide for their families.
Just an hour’s drive from Quito, Raquel Llumiquinga & Sofia Tipan have been manufacturing Remu Apparel jackets since day 1. They became our first manufacturing partners and are essential for our company and our objectives.
The Fabric
Sourcing Andean Wool
We've done our homework and made sure we're working with the best and highest quality wool in Ecuador. The Tambo Jacket has been crafted out of a warm, yet breathable 100% Sheep’s Wool fabric. Wool is way more sustainable than organic cotton given that sheep live in arid land, that don't require vast amount of water nor require the need of monocultures.

The Buttons
Tagua, Vegetable Ivory
Handcrafted buttons made out of Tagua tree seeds, a native species that grows in the Ecuadorian rainforest. This natural product is widely known as vegetable ivory for its resemblance to animal ivory. Tagua handcrafts are a great option to replace ivory products, by using the seed we are helping to stop ivory poaching.
In 1 year a Tagua tree produces 20 pounds of vegetable ivory, that is equivalent to the amount of ivory a female elephant produces in a lifetime.
