Changing The World

One Overshirt At A Time

When you buy Remu products, you are helping us provide fair-paying jobs to communities of women in rural Ecuador. As we bring work to their homes, our seamstresses don't have to choose between motherhood and work, as many other women do in the developing world. Our mission is to empower the artisans that work with us, and their families, so they can break out of the poverty cycle.

How We Make this Overshirt

Women Of

The Community Of Miranda

We work with seamstresses from rural communities of Ecuador to handcraft each of our pieces, enabling them to become independent through their skills and provide for their families.

Just an hour’s drive from Quito, Raquel Llumiquinga & Sofia Tipan have been manufacturing Remu Apparel jackets since day 1. They became our first manufacturing partners and are a huge inspiration to all of us and for our company.

An Ode

To Our Region

We wanted to have at least one product that would be an ode to our region in Ecuador, The Andes. The patterns, the style and the purpose of this product are directly drawn from the mountains that surround us and that we grew up around.

The Buttons

Tagua, Vegetable Ivory

Handcrafted buttons made out of Tagua tree seeds, a native species that grows in the Ecuadorian rainforest. This natural product is widely known as vegetable ivory for its resemblance to animal ivory. Tagua handcrafts are a great option to replace ivory products, by using the seed we are helping to stop ivory poaching.

In 1 year a Tagua tree produces 20 pounds of vegetable ivory, that is equivalent to the amount of ivory a female elephant produces in a lifetime.
